Raining on to crops Catching raindrops Roof runoff

What is rainwater harvesting?
Rainwater harvesting is the practice of collecting rainwater and storing it for subsequent use. The most common form of rainwater harvesting is from the roofs of buildings, but it can also be collected as stormwater runoff through specially prepared ground surfaces or via subsoil drainage from turf areas. Rainwater can be used for outdoor use, such as irrigation or pool filling, or for indoor use such as clothes washing, toilet flushing, or bathing. Properly treated rainwater can serve as emergency drinking water or even primary drinking water if no other source is available.
